Anaheim Ducks Round up: Weeks 1 and 2

10/9/14
vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

The first game of the season looked a little disorganized on the Ducks' part, Rookie Goaltender John Gibson looked shaky and the defense in front of him did not help him out much.  Sidney Crosby brought out the moves and scored a beauty and Brandon Sutter scored a shorthanded goal which was an absolute dagger.  The one bright spot for the Ducks was Corey Perry who scored a hat trick for them and my fantasy team.  Ducks lost 6-4  which is a close score but lack of defense led to their demise.

10/11/14
vs. Detroit Red Wings

The Ducks bounced back and won on a late goal scored by Getzlaf who stole the puck away from Kronwall and roofed it past Howard just under the crossbar.  Getzlaf proved to be the player of the game, scoring 2 goals including the game winner, always having a knack for coming up in big situations.  Beleskey scored the other goal, a solid two way bottom 6 guy who helps out in all facets of the game took advantage of being on a top line with Ryan Kesler and DSP.  Frederik Andersen had a solid outing for his season debut blocking 27 shots.  Ducks win 3-2

10/13/14
vs. Buffalo Sabres

The Ducks played the Sabres in a Columbus Day matinee in Buffalo, they played the Sabres so they won and in dominant fashion, because that's just what happens to the Sabres.  This game was the introduction of William Karlsson, a beauty swede who is a two way forward and hopefully in Anaheim for the next 15 years, kid didn't fuck around and scored 2 ginos in only his second career game.  The Ducks won 5-1 and this marks the emergence of "Wild Bill" Karlsson, a stud for years to come.  Ducks came out firing, sending 44 shots on goal and giving up only 11.  Total control and Domination.

10/14/14
vs. Philadelphia Flyers

The Ducks finished off their road trip with a 3 straight W in a close game ending in a shootout winner from none other than Wild Bill Karlsson himself.  This game was a close one, and reasonably so, The Flyers are a rough and tough team with skill and this was the tail end of a back to back for the Ducks.  Anaheim is getting back on track after a tough first game and starting a good streak. Ducks over Philly 4-3 in a shootout.

10/17/14
vs. Minnesota Wild

The Ducks fell behind early on a Jason Zucker goal in a fast paced, defensively tight game.  Minnesota has high end skill players as well as a solid defensive system so it is pretty impressive but equally important that Andersen held them to only one goal.  The comeback kids from Anaheim were back as the Ducks scored 2 goals in the 3rd, 1 by Corey Perry, and 1 short handed goal by Andrew Cogliano to win the game.  Freddy Andersen with 28 stops, holding down the fort in a 2-1 Ducks victory.

10/19/14
vs. St. Louis Blues

The Blues were coming off a 6-1 domination of the Arizona Coyotes where Jaden Schwartz scored his first career hat trick, this game however was dominated by the Ducks, Sami Vatanen scored 2 goals from the back end after Beleskey opened up the scoring.  The Ducks are looking dominant at home again and put up 3 goals on a Blues team who is very good defensively.  Andersen yet again put up 28 saves and scored himself a shutout, Getzlaf had 2 helpers and The Ducks win their 5th straight, 3-0 over St. Louis.  Ducks finish off their first two weeks with a 5-1 record. Ducks over Blues 3-0
