Anaheim Ducks Weekly Round Up

Anaheim Ducks Weekly Roundup: December 22nd- December 28th

Overtime Win Over San Jose, 3-2
The Ducks really enjoy one goal games, they are comfortable in them.  For the standings and the team morale, a win is a win, but god damn can't these boys make the fans comfortable too?!  Rickard Rakell scored a goal 7:20 into the second period before San Jose answered with 2 straight by "little" Joe Pavelski and Rookie Swede Melker "The Milk man" Karlsson (I just made that nickname up)  so naturally me and the rest of Anaheim faithful are left to bite our nails and saying, here we go again.  This was the time for fans to sit back and remember that the Ducks don't lose 1 goal games in regulation, literally just does no happen, so the boys were going to get at least a point.  Goaltender Freddy Andersen who basically plays every game was stellar once more, keeping his team in the game and making 30 out of a possible 32 saves.  "Super" Cam Fowler tied up the game 15:44 into the third period and Ryan "sealed with a Kes" Kesler finished the game 58 seconds into overtime for the winner.  Onto Arizona.

2-1 Loss to Arizona in a Shootout
The Ducks return to the ice after a 5 day Christmas layoff to face the Arizona Coyotes.  This one was a goaltender's duel, you have Freddy "Iron Man" Andersen with 28 saves on 29 shots at one end and Devan "Thank god I'm not in Edmonton" Dubnyk in the other net with 35 saves off of 36 shots.  This looked like it might be the opposite of a tenders duel in the first period because that was where all the scoring was, Rene Bourque opened 9:16 into the game with an Arizona Answer from Zybnek Michalek a little over a minute later.  This one had zero goals through literally a full game of hockey after the first, the remaining two periods plus overtime.  Actually The Ducks didn't even score in the shootout, nor did the Coyotes until Shane Doan broke the tie and won the game for Arizona, I mean the guy LITERALLY broke the tie, he scored on a shot that left his stick in more than one piece.  This was a tough one to lose, you have a guy like Andersen who does his best to win the game for you and you just can't get an extra goal passed Dubnyk.  If there is any good news from this game, the Ducks still can't lose a 1 goal game in regulation and picked up a point to add to their conference and league wide lead.  On to Vancouver.

Anny over Vanny, 2-1 OT Victory for Ya Boiz.
Anaheim once again wins in overtime, which means once again they added stress to my life and future gray hairs if this continues.  The Ducks are at the top of the league standings yet can't blow teams out of the water, this is either good or bad because it could mean that they find ways to win, or that their luck will run out in important situations and they're screwed.  This was another visit for Bonino to the pond where he and Kesler face their respective former teams, Anaheim and Vancouver.  Both players were left off of the score sheet, the regulation goals being scored by Yannick Weber in the second and Anaheim's response of the stick of Franky Beauchemin which came in the 3rd period. Cam Fowler let down the hammer and sealed yet another dramatic Ducks game with a goal coming 2:42 into the extra frame.  Oddly enough, the better goaltender on this night was not Freddy Andersen who got the win, he only had 14 shots his way and made 13 saves, but Ryan Miller was Vancouver's best player, making 29 saves on 31 shots fired off the sticks of Anaheim players.
